چکیده

next generation wireless systems will lead to an integration of existing networks, forming a heterogeneous network. Re-configurable systems will be the enabling technology sharing hardware resources for different purposes. This paper will highlight the requirements of a reconfigurable multi-standard terminal from the physical-layer point of view. A re-configurable architecture consisting of algorithm domain specific accelerators, allowing autonomous complex digital signal processing without interference from a microprocessor, will be explained. Performance comparison numbers with latest Digital Signal Processors will show the effectiveness of the proposed architecture.

An environment for (re)configuration and execution management of heterogeneous flexible radio platforms

This paper presents the Flexible Radio Kernel (FRK), a configuration and execution management environment for hybrid hardware/software flexible radio platforms. The aim of FRK is to manage platform reconfiguration for multi-mode, multi-standard operation, with different levels of abstraction. A high level framework whose goal is to manage multiple Medium Access Control layers and to enable coop...

Functional Analysis of a SDR Based Bluetooth/HiperLAN Terminal Demonstrator

In our Software Defined Radio (SDR) project we aim at combining two different types of standards, Bluetooth and HiperLAN/2 on one common hardware platform. HiperLAN/2 is a high-speedWireless LAN (WLAN) standard, whereas Bluetooth is a low-cost and low-speed Personal Area Network (PAN) standard. An SDR system is a flexible radio system that is re-programmable and re-configurable by software in o...

Cmos Re-configurable Multi-standard Radio Receivers Biasing Analysis

This paper presents the analysis of CMOS re-configurable multi-standard radio receivers biasing targeting the bias circuit optimum design taking into account the RF design specifics, in order to immunize the receiver’s building blocks key parameters to process and temperature variation effects. A constant – gmR current reference accomplishes the task by generating a bias current that tracks wit...

The Front end of Software-Defined Radio: Possibilities and Challenges

The use of mobile telephony has shown a spectacular growth in the last 10 years. A side effect of this rapid growth is an excess of mobile system standards. Therefore, the Software-Defined-Radio (SDR) concept is emerging as a potential pragmatic solution: it aims to build flexible radio systems, which are multi-service, multi-standard, multiband, re-configurable and re-programmable, by software...

Towards a reconfigurable hardware architecture for implementing a LDPC module suitable for software radio systems

Forward Error Correction is a key piece in modern digital communications. When a signal is transmitted over a noisy channel, multiple errors are generated. FEC techniques are directed towards the recovery of such errors. In last years, LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) codes have attracted attention of researchers because of their excellent error correction capabilities, but for actual radios hig...
